Surfing Starts Young: Why Our Lagoon Will Be the Perfect Place for Kids to Learn
THE EXPERIENCES
Kids as young as 5 can start surfing with us—beginning with the basics, like standing up on the board, as seen here at Wave Park in South Korea. Photo courtesy of Wavegarden.
At Bangkok Surf Park, we believe it’s never too early to discover the joy of surfing—and our future lagoon will be designed to be the perfect place for kids to start. In a safe, clean, and controlled environment, children as young as five years old will be able to learn to ride their first wave with confidence.
Unlike the unpredictable ocean, our Wavegarden-powered lagoon will offer gentle, consistent waves, shallow waters, and no hidden hazards—no rocks, reefs, or sea creatures. Up to 10 lifeguards will be on site at all times, alongside a team of surf coaches trained specifically for a lagoon environment, ensuring every session is both fun and safe. Parents can join younger children in the water—building confidence together and bonding over shared achievements. Safety equipment, including helmets, will be provided at no extra cost as part of our learning package.
WHY SURFING IS GREAT FOR KIDS
Surfing isn’t just a fun activity—it’s an amazing way to support your child’s overall growth. Physically, paddling and riding waves in our controlled lagoon will improve strength, cardiovascular fitness, coordination, balance, and flexibility, giving kids a full-body workout .
On the emotional side, surfing is proven to boost confidence, resilience, and mental well-being. Programs like surf therapy have helped children with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and autism, showing improved mood, self-esteem, and stress relief .
Surfing also fosters focus and patience, as kids learn to navigate waves and master balance. The “wipeout and retry” nature of surfing builds persistence . Plus, being in water naturally reduces stress and improves sleep, a benefit backed by studies on the calming effects of surf therapy.
Socially, group lessons encourage teamwork, communication, and encouragment, helping kids make friends and develop interpersonal skills . And there’s a powerful connection with nature—surfing gets children outside, interacting with their environment, and fostering an appreciation for the water world around them .
When our lagoon opens, it won’t just be a place to surf—it’ll be a place to grow, connect, and thrive. We can’t wait to welcome the next generation of surfers to their first waves—building strength, confidence, and lifelong memories along the way.
